Inside the Hospice Suites at Rockingham County

Nestled within Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center lies a sanctuary of comfort and compassion – a series of dedicated hospice suites. Join us as we step inside these rooms to explore the dignity and support offered within this neighborhood.

A Vision of Comfort:

The concept of renovating these rooms into hospice suites was first explored in March 2023 when the leadership at Rockingham County met with designers from Wellesley Design Consultants. The scope of the project included four semi-private resident rooms and one family living room. The goal of the renovation was to provide residents and their families with a private and peaceful environment when they needed end-0f-life care.

Many departments, vendors, subcontractors, and individuals worked together over the next 12 months to make this vision a reality. Every room was refurbished with new ceiling tiles, lighting fixtures, flooring, wall coverings, artwork, accessories, and furniture.

The opening of the hospice neighborhood was commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 25, 2024.

Dignity By Design

When it comes to end-of-life care, there’s nothing more important than comfort and dignity. The hospice neighborhood was meticulously designed to promote a sense of calm and relaxation with soft lighting and soothing colors. From plush pillows to areas to display personal affects, every element of these spaces considered the needs of those receiving hospice services and their loved ones.

In addition, the added privacy of the hospice suites provides loved ones with a special place to cherish their time together away from the hustle and bustle of the greater community.

Creating Lasting Memories:

Despite the difficult circumstances, the hospice suites at Rockingham County strive to create opportunities for moments of joy and connection. Whether it’s celebrating special occasions, creating memory books, or facilitating visits from therapy animals, the goal is to help residents and their loved ones create lasting memories.

Family members can spend quality time with their loved one in the spacious bedroom, complete with a sleeper sofa to ensure they don’t miss a moment. Additionally, an adjacent semi-private bathroom is stocked with any essentials you may need.

The family living room is also available to families and friends. Here, you will find a variety of amenities such as a beverage fridge, resource library, coffee bar, and snacks.
