Director of Nursing Michele Schmitt Joins NH Board of Nursing

BRENTWOOD, NH: Rockingham County Rehabilitation & Nursing Center’s Director of Nursing, Michele Melanson Schmitt, has been accepted to serve on the New Hampshire Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing is a governing body that sets the standard for how nurses perform care in the state of New Hampshire. Her duties on the Board will include issuing licenses to qualified candidates, handling disciplinary actions for practice violations, and developing policies that improve quality and safety.

Over the course of her career Michele has gained the leadership skills necessary to make her successful in this role. Michele has worked in long-term care since 1988. She has worked in a variety of roles including LNA, LPN, MDS Coordinator, and more over the years. Michele earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rivier College in 2001. She also holds a Master of Science in Nursing, Leadership, and Administration. Michele has been the Director of Nursing at Rockingham County since 2021. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Nursing at the Courville Communities in Nashua for nine years. This knowledge and experience will make her an asset to the Board. As a steward, her viewpoint will give insight into critical issues the field of long-term care services is facing.

“Michele is an expert in providing high-quality care,” said Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services, Jason Smith. “She is going to be an excellent advocate for older adults in the state. I can’t think of a better voice to represent long-term care services.”

Serving on the Board is a great honor. Michele’s term began on April 20, 2022 and will end on May 11, 2025.
