Rockingham County Rehabilitation & Nursing Center (RCRNC) has received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The nursing home Five-Star Quality Rating System is a tool located on the Medicare Care Compare website. Nursing homes with 5-star ratings are considered to have above average quality compared to other nursing homes in the state. RCRNC is one of only five long-term care communities in the Rockingham County area to receive a 5-star rating from CMS.
“We’re incredibly proud to have received a 5-star rating from CMS,” said Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services, Jason Smith. “We strive to continually improve our services to fulfill our mission of providing a safe, secure, and engaging environment for our residents. This rating reflects our dedication to delivering high quality person-centered care to every resident we have the honor of serving.”
About the CMS Nursing Home 5-Star Rating System
CMS created in the Five-Star Quality Rating System in 2008 to help older adults and caregivers easily compare nursing homes. The program includes data on every CMS-rated nursing home in the United States. The system awards providers with ratings ranging from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest possible rating.
According to CMS, the overall rating is based on three components: the results of nursing home surveys, staffing ratios, and quality measures. The health inspection rating is based on survey results over the past three years, complaint surveys, and infection control surveys. The staffing rating is calculated from RN hours per resident day and total staffing hours (RN, LPN, nurse aide) per resident day. Quality measures show the average level of a nursing home’s performance in certain areas of resident care. These individual scores are then combined to produce the overall star rating.
