Rockingham County Rehabilitation, Nursing Center, and Assisted Living Community is excited to announce a new music therapy program for residents through Granite State Music Therapy. This new initiative will provide seniors with a fun and engaging way to improve their physical and mental health.
Music therapy for seniors has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is a unique way to improve physical and cognitive abilities while providing a fun and engaging activity. Under the guidance of a certified music therapist, residents will be able to participate in individualized sessions and group programs.
Music therapy has numerous benefits for seniors. Not only can it improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, but it can also help with cognitive function and memory retention. Musical activities such as singing or playing an instrument can also provide residents with a sense of purpose and create opportunities for social connection. Furthermore, music therapy can help support residents in retaining fine motor skills.
Music therapy is an inclusive activity that can be tailored to meet residents’ unique needs and abilities. Music therapy can be especially beneficial for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, as it can help evoke memories and improve communication. No prior musical experience is required to participate.
“Music is a powerful tool,” said Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services, Jason Smith. “Residents are already expressing excitement about the new partnership with Granite State Music Therapy. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on the health and wellbeing of our residents.”
Rockingham County is committed to providing residents with innovative and effective programs that enhance their quality of life. The addition of music therapy to its offerings is a testament to this commitment. The dance therapy program will begin in August.
