2022: Rockingham County Earns Deficiency-Free Health Inspection

From August 16 – 18 Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center underwent Health and Life Safety surveys conducted by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services on behalf of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Rockingham County is pleased to announce that the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center earned a Deficiency-Free Health survey.

State representatives conduct nursing home inspections (surveys) at least once a year to determine the compliance of nursing homes with federal standards and rules of participation. The survey process is important in ensuring that nursing homes meet the needs of their residents by providing appropriate care and services. Throughout the inspection, surveyors evaluate areas including staffing plans, staff competencies, nursing services, quality assurance programs, infection control policies, environmental services, dining services, and resident concerns. Additionally, the survey process includes observational rounds and interviews with residents, family members, and nursing center associates.

“Being deficiency-free takes a collaborative team approach. Fortunately, one of our greatest strengths is our ability to work together across different departments, shifts, and organizations to fulfill our mission of providing resident-driven care,” said Jason Smith, Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services. “I cannot give our community enough praise for setting the example of what a nursing home should be.”

Earlier this year, the Department of Health and Human Services also conducted a specialized focused infection control survey at Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. This survey consisted of an audit of infection control policies and procedures. After a thorough review, the surveyors concluded that Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center met all infection control regulations and gave no citations.

Receiving deficiency-free health and infection surveys is a top indicator for excellence for a nursing home. It means residents can expect the highest level of care from an assisted living, short-term rehabilitation or nursing home.

“This accomplishment is something only a small number of providers achieve. These survey results are a testament to our commitment to the residents we serve now and in the future,” Smith said.
